thoughts from home this morning.

"From here, then, it's not a long leap to "designing" your own well-fitting sweater!"

in knitting daily today, sandi wiseheart used the word 'designing' in quotes. in a place that implied it is *not* not a long leap. but it really is. I just bought my very first stitch dictionary a couple of weeks ago, and I've done nothing but design stuff from scratch since. I actually measured my favorite little black cardigan three days before the kd post on that too. and had started two different garments based on those measurements before I even bought the stitch dictionary.

are normal people *not* designing their own stuff? how else will they know things will fit?

is it my inherent determination to do things for myself that won't let me pay someone to do what I can do perfectly well for myself? and I share all of my "patterns" - mostly just figuring things out based on photos or measurements of other things - on ravelry and wherever and would never dream of charging anyone. It's just figuring things out and writing them down. I understand if others want to pay for the convenience of not having to do it themselves, I guess...but it never seems worth it to me.

is this weird? are there way more people out there designing and just not piping up about it?
